Alternate Season 2 Episode 7 “Honor Among Thieves”

-Ooh, my word of the day is “Balaclava”. I kinda figured out what it was, but confirmed it. I love improving my vocab with your series.
-And that was one hell of an intense teaser. You never so much expect bullets in a teaser, which is why “Ms. Hellfire” was another shocker as well, but wow. I can't even say I know what to make of this power yet. I'm just excited she's no longer just the witch with premonition.
-The following scene was better in my own opinion as the sisters kicked in and Phoebe explained her power. In a way, this episode is similar to “Ms. Hellfire”...a gun battle in the teaser and a sister gaining a new power.
-Oh wow, Ryan really is growing on Prue. I want to feel happy for her, but I can't help but feel that there is a chance that Ryan is the agent and is luring her into his trap and -excuse the pun- under his spell. I do know that the agent as has been said by the man that he's careful in protecting his cover, so that might be another reason he protected Phoebe and not just for Prue.
-This may have nothing to do with what you have planned, but I'm starting to think that there is the chance that Ryan is evil (I already thought that, but...) maybe he's not a demon. From what we've seen from Charmed that demons can get shot and they heal within a matter of seconds, since those mortal bullets can't hurt them. So maybe Ryan is something else...
-Ah, I was waiting for the comparable mention of being shot at from Prue. But along with comparing is contrasting and both Prue and Phoebe are still opposites, so it's interesting to see how it plays out between the sisters. Someone should aim a rifle at Piper so she doesn't feel left out.
-Oh my, the P. Halliwell envelope scene was hilarious with Piper's “That's helpful”...this is yet another comparison of “Ms. Hellfire”.
-The scene with Darryl discovering the bullet shavings on the floor was absolute brilliance. Wow. I loved how that was all done and when Darryl discovers their secret, it's already going to top the one that was seen in Season 2. Holy crap.
-So Phoebe's power is a psychic forcefield! Not to sound repetitive, but once again, brilliant. No questions as to how it ties in with her power and the way the linespeakers speak is brilliant. (Wow, get me a thesaurus 'cause I'm abusing that word) I'm definitely going to try and channel that when I introduce some similar characters of my own (assuming I go with an idea I'm playing around with) and I'll have you to thank for that.
-And whoa, as “long as the past doesn't repeat itself” hmmm....I wonder if this is just a tie with her power or something to deal with Madam E. The latter sounds more on target, but who knows?
-You have Leo down to a T. I love how well spoken he is like all your characters, but he's real informative and I love his lesson on the Book of Shadows. Definitely something I knew, but they're still sophomore witches and still need their trusty Whitelighter.
-Lol @ Piper's Gollum remark.
-The background with the King of Thieves is incredible. Is this that is something that is actually discussed, reality-wise?
-I have a question about Matthew. How come he's searching jewelry stores? Was he anticipating for the King to pawn it?
-I love the words used to describe Madam E. “She enjoys his fear.” I love her so much. I envy such a character. That scene was incredible and now I have to look out for the sisters that are getting the least attention, if I'm too figure out who the agent is. My eyes are open. Wow, I swear my heart's going at a different speed. Not too fast, nor slow, just different. I just feel as if I'm closing in on the agent. Intense.
-Definitely curious as to who Manny (my new name for him) was helping with the offensive and defensive power.
-Lol, Piper is too much, still going Ryan “Bond”
-Great explanation on scrying. I don't think they even covered that in Charmed. It was a great way to tie-in that introduction.
-Wow, Prue is still stunned by that attack! Im glad to see that's lasted five episodes later and not just done away with. I'm sure Phoebe will have no troubles getting over it. Their plan to not use their magic sure fell through fast, all because Prue didn't dive down. Damn. Luckily Phoebe saved her. Phoebe sure is going to come of greater use since it's kinda a mix of Piper and Prue's power. It's like Piper's because it's a power of protection and it's similar to Prue's because if they come near her, she'll rebound them like a telekinetic jolt. That entire scene's action was great and as always, I can see it playing around in my head. Glad to see that Prue stepped up and hurled Matthew out of the way before he could lift the gun and pull the trigger.
-Poor Matthew. I'm glad they take him for just being a drunk. I like to think that he was drinking before and they also smelled alcohol on him.
-Nice to see Stephen receiving a well earned promotion. Piper also had some great theft comments, lol.
-I was actually going to make a comment about Phoebe receiving recognition for her new power, but you beat me to it. Episodes are only bound to get more exciting and I look forward to seeing the episode where Phoebe uses both powers to use.
-I've noticed you've done this a lot, but you tend to combine “thank you”. Is there reason you do that?
-Omg, that last scene was amazing. I'm scared about the turns this season will take. Seeing her fail will be really hard for me as I can see her succeeding.

Fantastic episode, Reyn. Sorry the review took a little longer and wasn't quite as long as others, but I did really enjoy it.

And I looked back at the episode you suggested and confirmed my theory on Madam Executive. Omg. I was right. You have no idea how long I was gaping and my heart pounded and as lame as it sounds, it's true. Wow. I uncovered one mystery so far. Holy crap. I'm so proud, but I won't say it here but I look forward to the background episode to see how that all unfolded. Omg. So proud of myself. You did a great diversion that I can understand why everyone would look past it, but wow.

Here is my review for episode 7, even though I'm meant to be doing coursework.....

A new power, I like that you're bringing one in now. The fact that its Phoebe and its a psychic power is good too, I can see the link with her premonitions, they both have the psychic side to it. Well thought. And it came in very handy, saving her and Ryan from the bullet. The only problem is, she didn't seem so bothered about potential magical exposure. I do understand that she would be really excited about getting a new power and being the first of the three of them to get a new power, but I would have liked to have seen maybe one of the sisters mentioning exposure since it threw the gunmen off their feet. All that said though, what was nice to see was a mortal problem. Jewellery store robberies happen and it was nice to see Phoebe and Ryan stuck in the middle of one, even just for a short period of time.

Prue and Ryan are so sweet together, I really like it, and I like that its got potential to continue throughout the season. You can really tell the two care for each other and I hope that Ryan really does care for Prue and its not just a coverup for him being evil. You do have me wondering lately, which is a good thing, don't worry!

It was so good to see you touch on the fact that Prue was shot and keep the continuity going. It is something that always annoys me with shows when little things like that are forgotten, so I'm glad you mentioned it and showed two different ways that people handle it.

The past repeating itself? You have me wondering whether they are talking about a past life or something in Phoebe's own past. I do wonder if you are going to bring in past lives, I did like that episode so I hope you do something with it, but that is because I believe in past lives myself, so I like episodes that touch on that. Sorry, going off on a tangent there.

Piper made me laugh in this episode. Her line: Ha! Hear that - explosive power - totally called it!
I could completely see her saying it and I could imagine the way she would say it too. Piper has to be my favourite Charmed One and I like that you're making her character slowly come out of the shell she was in in season 1.

"with great power comes great responsibility", I'm sorry I couldn't help but laugh at this line. It made me think of the comic series (Spiderman, right?) and the fact that it was just used recently in Supernatural. I had to comment just to say I noticed it!

I like that Phoebe has someone to talk to that isn't her sisters or anybody connected to her sisters, but I could see the secrets building up and causing trouble. What I am surprised about is that Phoebe was the sister who struggled to keep a secret and I guess I'm only just thinking about it now but I can't remember you mentioning anything about that. When Leo told her who he was she mentioned that she was the wrong Halliwell to tell because of how bad she was at keeping secrets. Now though, it seems second nature for her. I am just picking up on it though and I think its because I've got a little more time to think about things right now since I'm trying to procrastinate so much.

As for the main storyline in the episode, I like that it wasn't just another demon and that there was something different for the sisters to contend with. You start normal and then build it into protecting someone from an ex-friend. I also like that they're still learning their craft and you showed it and linked it to the episode. I'm also glad that the King found someone to pass the ring onto, I could see that happening though from the first time we were in the abandoned warehouse, there was always something about Stephen.

The present was perfect for Prue, and definitely just what she needed at the time. It seems like Ryan knows her extremely well, although I wonder whether it is just male intuition.

Another cliffhanger ending in the form of M.E, you're getting good at these and are creating far more questions than answers. Your aim, I know.

Coursework! Hopefully the episode was a more enjoyable way to spend your time than completing dreaded coursework!

First off - your reviews are getting longer! I like this trend a lot! Thank you as always. On to some reply comments.

Phoebe's new power certainly did come in handy! The type of power she received was in keeping with my conceptualisation of how their powers work (I see Phoebe's as primarily 'psychically based') and any powers she receives in future episodes will also tie back to that conceptualisation. I really disliked that Levitation was given to her as a power in the actual series, because to me that power is more in line with Prue's abilities. So in this season, I wanted to keep the powers that each of the sisters are given related to their base power, rather than giving them powers that would 'look cool'. Also, regarding the 'normality' of the jewelry store robberies - I'm glad you mention that, as one of my goals for this season was to tie in 'normal life' with supernatural problems. Some of my favourite Charmed episodes involved the sisters solving problems that weren't of a paranormal/supernatural nature.

As to your concern about 'magical exposure' - good point. I'd have to look back at the script to be sure, although I do believe that all of the people in the store were behind counters or otherwise had their view obscured, so they wouldn't have seen anything (bar Ryan of course, although he already knows something is amiss). However I agree that the sisters would be concerned with magical exposure - if only if it were just a quick 2-3 line query about whether her power use was seen by others. I can add that in during the next edit of that episode. Thanks for pointing that out

Fantastic to hear that you like Prue and Ryan together! I like them as well, and I think as a couple they are well suited to one another. Prue certainly cares for Ryan, and he definitely cares for her - and his feelings are genuine and not an act. Having said that, however, there is more to Ryan than meets the eye!

Prue being shot at in episode 2 will continue to be mentioned - it was a very big deal for her as a character - but it is also part of Madame Executive's end game. She much prefers to fight the sisters with psychological games rather than physical might, which makes for a much more intriguing season finale showdown.

I will definitely be bringing in past lives, as I too love past life stories! I'm about to go off tangent here as well, but a couple of years ago I travelled interstate to visit a very well-regarded psychic who told me some very interesting things about one of my supposed past lives. It was an eye-opening experience, and one which I will remember for a very long time to come. But back on topic, there is an upcoming episode that will be completely devoted to exploring the sister's past lives, so you will most certainly get your 'past life fill' during that eppy.

Glad to hear you enjoyed Piper's characterisation - I admit I have fun writing her lines. Her sarcastic and sometimes snarky attitude is very enjoyable to play around with! And the line you mentioned is one of my favourites as well.

Regarding the spiderman line - I didn't even know about that! I've never seen nor read any of the spiderman movies or comics (I was always a Superman fan, myself) so I had no idea that was part of the spiderman series. As to Supernatural also referencing that - they must have spiderman fans on the writing panel!

Good point regarding Phoebe and her inability to keep secrets. I remember that scene in the first season when she finds out about Leo and remarks that she can't keep a secret (and then goes on to tell both her sisters by the end of the episode about Leo's status). I see her promise to keep The Man's identity a secret a measure of how much she cares for him in that she's able to keep his secret despite being notorious for spilling information (thus demonstrating a great amount of self-control and self-moderation). In later episodes, her change in behaviour will be something that her sisters also comment upon, but her keeping The Man's identity a secret is, to me, illustrative of how much she does care for him.

I'm happy that you enjoyed the plot - it was a nice mix of supernatural and mundane - and it was great fun introducing a character like the King of Thieves and the mythology surrounding him (you haven't seen the last of him!). Episode 7 will also be one of the most important episodes for a plotline that won't develop until alternate season 3 (big spoiler there, you heard it first!)

As you mention, Ryan definitely knows Prue very well! Is it more than simple male intuition? Well, Ryan himself has answered that in a previous episode.

I really believe this comment has just made it all clear. The “s” after “sister” makes it plain that the agent is Jackson: He’s the only one out of both Ryan and he, that only has “limited contact” with the other two sisters: Ryan, for his part, only has “limited contact” with Piper, since he both sleeps with Prue and teaches Phoebe…
This still doesn’t explain the mystery around Ryan but I’m think my theory’s worth it

Very intense Phoebe-Prue scene, really well done.
Liked the Ryan-Prue scene too. How you let us in a little in his thoughts, but worded enough so we don’t know everything: for instance, you say he WANTS Prue to know he sees a future for them, but that does not me he himself actually sees this future. If he happens to be the agent, it would make sense, you know?

I like how the pin device works. And God, that means the Man will be discovered by the Suit ultimately :s

I figured I gotta catch up with this series. So here is my review for Episode 7!

-Okay, well the first scene was cool, we never got to see a real robbery like that except in Season 8, but that is all cool with me lol. I am a little confused on Phoebe's new power. I am sure we will see what it is, but I am trying to decide if it is an energy blast, or deflection...

-I like Piper's reaction to Phoebe's being shot at, it is very Piper-esk. As for Prue, i am glad that Prue has now grown to like Ryan more as a guy, too bad he is a demon lol. I understand Phoebe's power a little more now, and I wodner why she recieved it?

-I really like how Prue is getting into someone else. It has been a while since Andys death, and it is good she has finally moved on. it is nice to know more than oen guy could steal her heart.

-Hmm, I wonder what that note means, and who sent it. Very interesting, i can't wait to find out!

-I am glad to see Darryll in action. We havent seen him in a while. I am interested to see if the Halliwells will tell them the secret since the bullet cannot be see at all...interesting...

-I wonder what the group of people have to deal with Phoebe's power for. I am so interested by them. i want to know more! haha

-I like how you made the concept of evolution work with powers. I also like how everything is not in the Book, and how they are reminded that they may have to figure things on their own which the sisters did a lot in Season 8.

-As for the King of Theives, interesting. I have only heard of it in Aladdin, so this should be interesting to read about. i love you originality!

-I like the Theives explaination. It seems very in depth and thorough, and very believeable. I like how you did that, very nice. Also, when he is saying that he wants Prue, that is what i think of, I think that would be cool, yet very interestign to see if the witch could carry on the traditon or not. We shall see I guess.

-I wonder what will happen to dear old Madame. She seems like such an interesting villain, yet she places all her trust in her subjects. Something I have done myself, but I do not understand it when demons do it, then they never understand why their plans never follow through. Not your fault, but was always a flaw with the demons of Charmed, which you did well with incorporating from the show to your story.

-I like how the man is able to help her work with her ability. I wonder if he will actually want her power or something like that. I also like how it is similar to Wyatt's power, but instead, Phoebe's is used by her psychic energy instead of her just having the power. it is explained where is comes from. Nicely done. .

-i like how the sisters have romance problems. I wonder if Piper and leo will even be together int his reality, or if that will chang. I know not all people like leo, so you may write him out. Who will know? As for Prue and Ryan, I am sesning a Cole and Phoebe situation, but the one thing is, is Ryan only a god actor or is his affection true? Who knows?

-I wonder if the thugs will kill the King, and if the sisters are meant to save him?

-The first time they scry, I like how we get to relive their firsts all over again. Nice!

-I like the battle scene, very nice and the use of Phoebe's power, great even still. I am liking this series more and more, and you have done a great job Tash. Very very well done.

-Haha, Matthew is funny, I wonder why he would tell the police. Being magical you would think he would know that the mortals would know nothign about it. But eh, I guess that was why he wasn't the heir haha.

-I like how Stephen got the ring instead of one of the Charmed Ones. I dont think i would have liked it if one of them got to be Queen of Theives.

-I liked the sister moment between pheobe and Prue, and I remeber in Season 1 when Prue admires Phoebe for her premonition power, so I dont think that that was the first time that Prue complimented her, but it was still a good moment.

-Ryan and Prue are still a really nice couple, and the journal was an interesting gift, i wonder how Prue will use it. Will she use it like Piper used hers? Interesting questions!

-I can't wait to find out more with Madame Executive. Awesomeness!

Very nice start, I like the beginning. Its a robbery thing, not expecting that at all. However I smiled alot when Phoebe and Ryan ended up finding the same braclet for Prue. Its cute how they think the same. I dont quite get her power, she shoots energy beams from her hands?

scene 2- I like it, however Phoebe is so calm. I do picture her that way though. She is the only sister that I picture to be calm like that. Why is Prue more worried about Ryan than Phoebe??

scene 3- Phoebe is learning physcology correct? ( I know its spelt wrong) However if so why couldnt she just talk the guy out of shooting the place up. ( the robbers).

scene 4- That is so weird. Is it something to do with the charmedones Past? Or completely new?

scene 5- I like hte name Jess, for a police officer. Its different and it seems to suit this one. She sounds nice and everything. Is Darryl for or against the girls being witches in this season? In your season?, and whatever he is, is he going to be in a main episode in the future?.

scene 6- I have to say this is one of my favourite scenes, so far other than the opening one. It is very cool. The man knows Phoebe's new power before she does? Will he plan to use it against her?. Or show her only what he wants her to see.

scene 7- HAHA!! your kidding me. Jaw drops open. The king of thieves. That's new!. In charmed? wow. Did not see that coming AT ALL! I like the sentence said by Leo. " I dont know Piper, Perhaps if you unfreeze him, You can ask him." Lol very Leo like.
I also like the quote " You need to understand, this man is dangerous. He is completely devoted to finding the ring, its power is like a drug to him. He is cold, calculating, aggressive. He will find the ring, and when he does so help us all." Very depth and good. Says alot about this " Man."


scene 8- Matthew.. I like his character however I keep being reminded of Matthew Tate, from the season 2 episode with Matthew / Prue.

scene 9- I wonder if the Suit did have any other choice, would he work for Madame Executive? He is becoming very much of a coward now as he faces her true strengths. This makes me think he will fail in the future.

scene 10- Lol!! I knew Leo would hate when Piper did the exact same thing to her that he always does. Reverse physcology. Hehe. Very nice.

scene 11- HA!! I really like Phoebe's new power and am beginning to see it as a threat activation thing. It does'nt like " The Man." All too well.

scene 12- I like it Reyn, I always knew that the Man would end up training Phoebe and that she would want him too as an outcome as well.

scene 13- nicely done, I love the Prue/ Piper relationship. Always have. It was done well especially as you practically wrote everything I was thinking. The boyfriend advantage swaps. I know Prue will have it the hardest trying to tell Ryan about her secret. Also I am like Piper in a way because all I want also is someone I can trust.

scene 14- Oh no!! The Man took the ring. I knew Phoebe was attracted to the man all along, another thing was that I totally forgot in all the heat of her knew power, that she still had the power of premonition. Very cool power. I say even cooler than her knew one.


scene 15- Lol!! I keep having to remind myself that they do not know this magic yet. Or getting use to it. Im so use to Phoebe knowing all this already and showing other future witches. Its something I need to get use to. I like the premonitions though.


scene 16- Very cool, I found that scene was full of action. What I thought though was that Prue would react faster and not freeze on the spot but in the end she did and thats all that counts. Also does Prue only have 1 power in this season? I thought she used her eyes in this season to do telekinesis, I like how you ended this scene as well." Well that was great, But can someone please untie me now?!"


scene 17- I like the cops, I love Darryl in charmed as I did Andy and I have been wondering if you will be giving them there own upcoming episodes. Where the plot can focus on Darryl. One of my favourite quotes is that of the cop as well.

"Yeah - and every yeah a fat guy in
a red suit visits my house, climbs
down my chimney, and leaves me
presents.
(laughing)
Give me a break! " Sounds like a cop would say that.

scene 18- I like how you act the charmedones very much. In this scene Piper was my favourite. I dont think that this guy really is the king of thieves. I mean common!! He is so harmless.

scene 19- This scene is very sweet. Phoebe finally gets the acknowlegement she needs from Prue. Prue finally seeing Phoebe has active powers and strengths just like her and Piper. However I wanted to know why you chose to give Phoebe an active power and not a power that is an extension of her premonition. Like a mix power. ex: an extension on premonition and levitation / electricity, I always pictured phoebe as an electricity touch.

scene 20- WOW! you had me going for a moment there. I thought Ryan would be proposing or something. However in the end the choice was good. Very impressed.

scene 21- Ive been noticing your always ending episdoes with Madame Executive. Is there a specific reason for that or just because? Im not sure.. Im getting the feeling though that Madame Executive is threatened by Phoebe but finds Prue extremely and constantly vulnerable.

I thought for a moment that Phoebe’s new power may have been an interference from the Man, and not actually her own, but it seems as if this really is hers. Cool Beans. A forcefield is a whole lot more badass than levitation, it goes without saying.

The Man mentioned before that he’s accustomed to demon fighting, and it’s obvious he wants to go back to his old role. I’m beginning to wonder if being assigned to Phoebe is related to this ominous “past” they so adamantly don’t want to see repeated, and if the same past involves the last pyrokinetic person sent to the “Academy” mentioned a couple episodes ago. Maybe guiding Phoebe isn’t exactly supposed to be a punishment for the Man for some previous screw up, but it’s just… giving him a little distance from a previous bad situation until he gets things back in perspective again? I don’t know. I really should probably stop talking until I get caught up, because I’m speculating on things that in all probability have already been resolved by now, and I’m making myself look dumb and paranoid. Moving on.

I’m kind of creeped out by Phoebe’s developing relationship with the Man, haha. I can’t tell if it’s eventually going to lead to something more romantic, but as things stand I just don’t know enough about him to feel anything but protective of Phoebe. Every time she laughs or smiles at him, I want to be like, “be careful! Just because he’s technically good, doesn’t mean….” I suppose I’m going to have to get over it though. I’m also curious to see if/when he’s going to meet Piper. As of now, she’s the only one who’s never had an encounter with him. Although, I guess since she’s also the closest to Leo, the whitelighter, he may be wary of interacting with her and having her discuss his presence with Leo. Telling her not to tell him would only make her suspicious enough to do exactly that.

lol, as much as I loved Piper’s quick, proud interjection into the conversation between Phoebe and Leo to make SURE everyone remembered she had mentioned the possibility of an exploding power first, “exploding power” is a term I very adamantly associate with Piper, and Piper alone. Phoebe needs to hurry up and talk to the Man so that she can get all the facts concerning her new gift sorted out.

I liked the look Leo gave Piper when she made her little “Gollum” quip about the ring, haha. Sometimes he was just so unappreciative of her frequent smartass comments.

They are fantastic. Ugh. I love them to death. Even when they’re doing their angsty resentment/rage/anguish thing that breaks my heart. Not that they’re doing that now… but… you know what I mean .

As much as I love Piper, I am not impressed with her little disappearing act to the club. There’s no denying how important her normal life is to her, but come on; she could have faked at least a minor concern for the magical situation at hand before taking off. The way she managed to irritate Leo as well means it’s only a matter of time before the issue comes to a head between the two of them, and that should be interesting.

The King is one brave dude. If someone shattered my kneecap with a bat, I would most certainly be opting for the healing should it be offered to me.

I have to start rushing this along or else I’m going to be late for class, but Prue’s acknowledgement of Phoebe’s effective assistance was key. It’s nice to see the bond between the two of them continuing to grow so that they’re not only connected by an older sister/younger sister dynamic, but also as respected, equal comrades. Like you mentioned, I think that’s always been something Phoebe has wanted from Prue.

The journal was a really sweet gesture on Ryan’s part; could anything else be expected from him? ;D Despite the possibility that he’s evil, I’m going to continue loving him right on until a devastating ulterior motive is revealed. I’m going to keep viewing Jackson as the agent, until there’s no more room for denial, lol. I’m so not attached to Jackson in any way. THAT betrayal I could handle.

As for Madame Executive? Man. That girl is crazy. Poor Prue is really going to have a number done on her pride and self confidence before this season is over. And I hate that pin! It’s such a dirty, dirty spy trick. Alas, Chaucer calls, and I can hear my roommate getting ready to take off in the kitchen, so I really should hurry along and stop CONSTANTLY tempting her to leave without me. Episode 8 is going to be my reward to myself tonight, should I reach at least the ten page point with my essay .
