Episode 2.04 Nothing To Fear

As always, I read and review. Kinda like a commentary. So yeah, I'll write down my thoughts as I go.

- The episode starts on a high. I really like the new character you've brought it, and the way you've brought her in. It's nice knowing the Charmed ones actually have friends, even if they are witches in need.

- Is The Third Phoebe? As in, the third born. If so, then I like how impersonal and profession the Suit and M.E are. It's creepy.

This way, we can ensure the transition from her old life to her new one is as smooth as possible, and you can establish contact with your trustee.

Arcas meeting Phoebe. I'm guessing this is going to be the start of Phoebe's love story.

I only quoted this part but I am referring to the entire scene. Creepy and dark. Just how I like it! It was also very well written for script and I like that you're pushing past the script-format limits. But yeah, I always loved it when dark magic was used in Charmed and I like to see you're exploring that part of the show. The scene also felt very Supernatural-y, so now I see what you meant when you mentioned that BAM was Charmed meets SPN.

You heard me. Ever since I started working here you've been rude and..

I really love this side of Prue. I always felt Prue was kinda repressed and never really said what she was thinking. Nice idea.

- I like that Candice thought that no one could help her so she began packing. It wasn't all that unexpected like everything else in your series, but it definately suited the situation.

- A ball of ice? Would that shatter or kinda envelope her? It just says "hits".

- Okay, this battle scene is what I really like about your series. There is a site which hosts virtual series and well they aren't really that enjoyable to read, yours however is. You are doing wonders with this series.

- Ooh, The MAN has entered the building.

- I really like the way Arcas (?) talks. He's so mysterious and polite. And I think I've said this but I like the way he teleports.

- Prue's all bitchy and Shannen-y. It's kinda funny.

- Hmm, I have a feeling Candice is going to stick around and become a sort of secondary character. I don't want her to become evil though.

- Lmao at the backseat comment. The new Prue kinda reminds me from the 3rd clone from season one.

- The Blue guy vaquish scene was very well thought out, and well cool. I got the whole Fire- Ice thing just now. And how he was an equally strenghed antagonist.

- Great! The Academy is like a beta'd version of Magic school! And it has a better name

- Fire dancer since-- ?? I am really curious about the Academy. At first I thought it was just going to be like MS, but now I think it's different, darker and has a more interesting past.

- Lol at the "You wouldn't believe me if I told you" thing. Some lighthearted humour is always nice in Charmed.

- Oooh, M.E has pyrokinesis. I have a feeling though that this isn't her only power.

- I really want to know more about M.E. I might skip a few episodes and find out. But really, there's no fun in that. So yeah, I'll wait.

Overall good episode. Dark, funny and nicely excecuted.

Arthurian tradition happened to be awesome tonight, but my two cancelled classes before it allowed me to do some reading sans the breaking of rules this time

I think I’ll probably have to start every review by reiterating how much I love Ryan. It was really sweet of him to rearrange his schedule in order to be there for Prue, and the slight awkwardness was adorable as always.

I really enjoy that in your episodes, the base demons are demons. They’re evil and almost animalistic, they follow instruction without human emotion… they’re dark. They’re not exceptionally subtle. Toward the end of the series we had a lot of the elite kind, and not so much of the raw, hideous, majority of the underworld kind, if that makes sense. You’ve taken everything that I loved best about the initial seasons, and you’ve run with them.

Oh Prue. Fear spells? Really? Sometimes I honestly forget how relatively young and naïve they are at this point, and theeeennnn Prue does this. Although to be fair, when Piper cast her fear removal spell, she was definitely already at a point where she should have known better. It’s easy to understand why in this situation, Prue was so quick to impulsively jump to spell casting, even though generally speaking this is the type of behaviour we pretty much expect to come from Phoebe. Prue is so used to being in control, and to being able to talk herself into doing anything, and to having enough self discipline to suppress any unwanted feelings, the hold this incident has over her has got to be unbearable. Poor girl. And of course, even though there was that moment where Ryan could have gently talked her into going home, Rachel came in and pushed her over the edge by issuing what Prue would most certainly interpret as a challenge.

Is it wrong of me to be smirking now that Prue gave Rachel her comeuppance, even though I know it’s in all probability going to come back and bite her in the ass?

I’m wondering if purple robed man is going to have individual encounters with each of the sisters before the three of them figure out that they’ve all been assisted by the same guy. I’m guessing that’s the point when a little more light will be shed on his background. I’m also wondering (now that Leo’s back) how the purple robed man and the Third work in relation to the Elders/whitelighters. Is this one of the orders that they’re at least vaguely aware of? Or is the Third’s ability to shield a girl coming in to her powers from Them an indication that – as occasionally seems to be the case – the Elders are completely in the dark on this one? I really do like that we got to see the way he interacted with Prue in episode two, and now we get to see the way he operates around Phoebe. It adds to the mystery; especially since Prue never told Piper and Phoebe about the letters or her guide, and it stands to reason that Phoebe might let the fact that she too had some assistance slip from her mind when more imperative things start pressing.

Haha. As if Prue doesn’t manage to be blunt and forthcoming enough without the aid of a fear removal spell. The scene between her and Piper in the club was priceless. Although I’m sure it won’t be long before the current hilarity of this spell gets sucked away by the inevitable personal gain hitch. Until then, however, I shall remain amused . Also, I’m going to stop asking a million and one questions before I even finish reading the episode, because the conversation between Phoebe and purple robed man (whom I should probably start referring to as just ‘man’ now, eh?) touched on about half of them. I’ll work on it.

Once again, poor Ryan. Being a non supernatural being around Prue/Piper/Phoebe/Paige is always dicey business. Mortal men are forever getting sucked into their drama with hilarious/not so hilarious results. My poor Bond is rocking all my sympathy right now, being stuck in the car for God knows how long on the way to P3 with forward-nympho Prue.

And now we have more mystery, with an elusive Academy and a story behind the last pyrokinetic force they had in their midst. Candice took the news of her gifts fairly well, all things considered. You weave such a fascinating tale, and as it continues to grow I continue to be amazed at all the stuff you’re throwing in here. Cool. It is absolutely no wonder at all that none of what I read from that first webisode made any sense to me; you’ve managed to cover so much in just the four episodes I’ve read, by accidentally jumping to the mid season point, I might as well of skipped entire seasons all together.

I so knew Phoebe wasn’t going to get to tell Prue and Piper about purple robed man! And she was too funny, teasing Prue mercilessly about the table dancing. I was a little concerned for Ryan when Prue went to visit him, and I was preparing myself to get heartbroken when he acted weirded out around her, but I was oh so pleasantly surprised.

“Can I get you anything? Coffee? Tea? Today’s paper?”

Excellent, lol. From there, I knew it was going to be okay. He’s just so sweet! And his regurgitation of her propositions, followed by her indignant denial of having ever made them, was beautiful. It was a really nice way to end the episode. Piper and Leo are good, Ryan and Prue are good, and Ren is most definitely good .
