I think it just shows how powerful Lucifer is. They mentioned it before his arrival. He would be able to kill them easily.

I'm gonna wait a couple of days before commenting. I'm still recovering from the best season finale ever. Seriously, this was great. It closed so many doors, but opened so many more. I can't believe it how flawlessly it was put together. All the flashbacks, the Sam-Devil scenes, the post-battle scene. It was brilliant, except those annoying Voice overs by Chuck.
I'm so happy this isn't the end. Season 6 FTW! Anyone else watch it?

Did anyone see the finale? I don't know what to think of it, frankly.
Clearly, it was written as a series finale, rather than a season finale, but, as we all know, it's been renewed for a 6th season.
I don't really wanna talk about it yet, seeing as how I have tons of Matrices to get to, and I don't wanna spoil anyone, but what was everyone's thoughts on it?

Yeah, it was obvious that it was written as a series finale, but modified to become a season finale. If that makes sense. If this was a series finale, Sam would have probably stayed dead and buried. But he didn't, so I'm really curious to see how he got back, without bringing Lucifer with him and I'm almost 100% sure he won't confront Dean, because he'll want to leave him to his newly found perfect life...
Now, this was the exact same problem Buffy had. After one of the best series/season finales ever (5.22), it had trouble keeping that brilliance for the seasons after and season 6 ended up a bit.. sketchy. And without Kripke handling everything, I fear Supernatural may fall into the same rut. Liking your new banner btw.

Just watched it. Like it ended 30 seconds ago. I'm not so sure about Sam not bringing the Devil back with him... I mean, the streetlamp didn't stop for no reason. And if I remember correctly, Sam never affected his surroundings when he was using his powers in demon-blood high mode. So there. Waiting. Other than that, I'm not sure what to say either.

I miss reading Ross' reviews. Where is he?
Ross, if you read this, can you please make review of the final episode? I want to see what you think about it. lol.
By the way, I dunno what to think about the final either. I like the flash memories stuff... but that basically it. I expected more. I'm kinda disappointed with the 'final battle' and whatnot. I agreed with you guys though, the episode clearly written as a FINALE.
When Season 6 gonna start tho? As usual on September right? I'm intriguing to see how they gonna go here.
Btw overall, honestly, not really one of my favourite season. And I have a feeling they gonna screw up Season 6 somehow.

My boyfriend and I watched it together (I had to wait until he was with me to watch it rather than being one episode ahead of him as I usually am) and as much as we both loved the episode, we both agreed on the same thing. It should have just ended there. I was ready for Supernatural to end at the 5th season and was looking forward to a show that had been fully planned out from the beginning and every season was linked together in some way. Season 5 brought back things from seasons 1 and 2 and gave us a few missing answers. It tied things up perfectly and gave Dean the sort of happy ending he kind of needed - it gave him the chance to put hunting behind him and have the white picket fence house and the love of his life Bringing Sam back, with or without Lucifer, I know that was all because of Season 6 and tbh I, nor my boyfriend, liked it at all! It is the same as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, when they signed that up for a sixth season I was a little unsure about it and for a very good reason, no season beat the fifth and meant-to-be final season so I don't think anything will be any better than Supernatural's fifth season, especially without Kripke running the show.

Figured this is probably the best place to post about my thoughts on the season as a whole.
I... was not a fan this year. I feel that a lot of the tight story-telling from the previous season collapsed under the writers' complete cluelessness on how to properly deal with the Apocalypse on their budget. There were too many ridiculous filler episodes, and with the amount of information and plot progression they crammed into those rushed, bloated final episodes, I found myself screaming at the screen because I wanted to know why we were dispatching the two strongest Horsemen in the same episode, when we had wasted five on Paris Hilton, body-swapping teenagers, Demian, ancient Dean, and fan conventions. Ugh.
The first four episodes this season, and then a few later on, were really the only ones that seemed to get their shit together. "The Song Remains The Same" was easily the season's best episode, and other latter half episodes like "My Bloody Valentine" and "Dark Side Of The Moon" where truly excellent. Unfortunately, we had to deal with utterly pointless rubbish in between it all before we headed into the information pile-up that was the season's final four episodes. Seriously, they used filler episodes as if they didn't have enough material for 22 episodes, and then the final run of episodes were just too much. Why was so much time wasted when perhaps a more focused storyline could have been better controlled?
"Swan Song" was the show's worst season finale by a country mile. Supernatural normally pulls it out of the bag for the end of the season, but that was how they close a five year arc and the Apocalypse? With Sam and Adam doing a hilarious slow-motion fall into a hole? Parts of it were good. The flashbacks were genuinely effective, and Jensen Ackles once again proved his ability to carry even the worst material, but not much could save this anti-climax.
Random scenes I liked were Dean's scene with Death (one of the best of the show, ever), Crowley, and the various twists in "Sam, Interrupted" but really, you could have skipped everything after "The End" and went straight to the season finale and it still would have made sense. Nothing happened this season. Even the issues between the brothers went round in circles. I'm not even going to touch Sam's sudden goodness that came out of nowhere with no build-up.
Season 5 was the second-worst season of the show, only made more evident by following the show's best season. A woeful end that clearly shows that things should have ended this year. I fear for next season!

I agree with you there, Ross. Things could've been handled far better this season, the storytelling tactics from season 4 were lost, and most of what was established in season 4 disappeared. Sam trusted Ruby with everything and even left Dean for her. Something that wasn't really acknowledged by him, but bitched about by Dean. Sam was on Demon Blood, and really, this new press release saying that Sam will be more ruthless in season 6 ( Click here ) should have already happened in season 5. I mean coming off that much demon blood should've sent him crazy, but instead, like you said, he was too good. The plot this season was amazing, but should've been stretched out a bit more. For example, they could've stated that the rings were needed mid-season instead of at the end, thus dedicating a few episodes to each dangerous horsemen, instead of half an episode. They were merely treated like any other demon/ghost, and I feel they should've been made to look like characters one would fear. But really, I'm just saying all the negative things about this season. There was a lot of great episodes in there, they were just fillers, when they shouldn't have been. Surely we could have waited a while for them, or they could have at least mixed some of the Apocalypse story into them. I'm rewatching season 5 now, so I'll probably be back later. Oh, and I stand by my finale opinions. Although it seemed like a lot was shoved in there, it was awesome. And I didn't even think about laughing at the falling-into-hole scene, although now that you mention it, he should've just jumped head first and not spread out his arms in a very melodrammatic manner, only to fall backwards. Now I'm just dying to know what'll happen next. I hope the Dynamic Duo get more of a say next season, otherwise we'll never get to see the tight storytelling again.
