PRUE HALLIWELL Prudence Halliwell was born on October 28, 1970 in San Francisco, California. She is the firstborn child of Patty Halliwell, a witch, and Victor Bennett, a human. As a witch, Prue developed the magical power of telekinesis, which allowed her to move things with her mind. On March 24, 1975, she was visited by a future version of herself. Also on that day, Patty signed a pact with the warlock Nicholas to bless a ring that made him immune to her daughters' powers. In November 1975, after two of her three sisters had been born, their grandmother Penny bound their powers to keep Nicholas from killing them and taking their powers. The memory of having had powers was erased by their grandmother. In high school, Prue was a very popular A-list student, president of the Student Council and a cheerleader. At some point, she also became rebellious, but it did not stop her from learning how to be responsible and protective of her family. At age 21, she was involved in a car accident and blamed herself for hurting Phoebe, who was hospitalized after the incident. When they attended college, Piper and Prue moved into an apartment together in North Beach. Prue took up History and was a serious yet popular student. She graduated with honors from Gold State University. Piper and Prue stayed in North Beach until 1997 when Penny became ill and they moved back in with Grams and Phoebe at the manor. Prue became engaged to her boss Roger and she asked Piper to be her maid of honor. However, Roger was secretly trying to seduce her sister, Phoebe and when Prue found out, she dumped him and blamed Phoebe for the break-up, despite the fact that Phoebe refused all of Roger’s advances. Prue, being the eldest sister, sees herself as the head of the household. She is conservative, cautious and dislikes surprises, and it is often left to the middle sister Piper to arbitrate between Prue and Phoebe, whom Prue regarded as immature, irresponsible and unpredictable. Revelation as a Charmed OnePrue came into her power with a mixture of shock and anger at her sister Phoebe, whom she blamed for her introduction to the Craft. Out of the three sisters she struggles with her powers and her destiny the most, especially when dealing with her mother's past and death. Prue originally possesses the power to move objects with her mind – called telekinesis. Her telekinesis was originally focused by squinting her eyes; later, she learned to channel the ability with her hands. Whilst Prue is able to lift substantial weight with her powers, she very seldom uses her powers in complex manipulations, preferring to simply lift and throw. Like her sisters, her powers are linked to her emotions. In Prue's case, the trigger is anger. Prue's telekinetic powers depend on a direct line of sight, or at least an intimate knowledge of the object's location in order to be manipulated. She currently cannot telekinetically move an object if she does not know where it is, and she has to be in the object’s immediate vicinity to affect it. It should also be noted that Prue's telekinetic powers are currently not the strongest in the family line. An ancestor of hers, Brianna Warren, reportedly was able to telekinetically move a sword (belonging to one of the Lords of War, Gabriel) "hundreds of miles," a feat which Prue admitted she probably couldn't do. Penny "Grams" Halliwell, believing them to be warlocks, was able to move Prue, Piper and Phoebe in a complex path to expel them from the manor. Prue has never demonstrated such fine control over human-sized objects. Romantic LifeOnce Prue came into her powers, she invariably became involved in criminal cases involving murdered, missing, or otherwise harmed innocents. This led her to reunite with her highschool sweetheart, Andy Trudeau, who had become a detective with the SFPD. Their feelings apparently rekindled, they decided to begin dating -starting off hot-and-heavy and then trying to slow it down. The relationship was turbulent - Prue's secret witchcraft caused a lot of difficulties. She was regularly late or a no show for dates and appointments with Andy, much to his frustration, and even more frustrating for Andy was Prue's inexplicable involvement in his cases, causing him to start a file containing his own hypothesis which was startlingly accurate. Eventually, Prue cast a truth spell on Andy without his knowledge, whereby 24 hours later, he would remember nothing from the past day. She used this to tell him the truth about herself to see if he could accept it. In the three minutes, he could not tell her that he could overcome it because he wanted a normal family, and so she called the relationship off, though she would eventually be forced to admit who she was. Things looked hopeful, but at the end of season one Andy dies to save Prue, which sends her into an emotional tailspin. Andy’s death deeply affected Prue, primarily because she blamed herself, believing it was her fault he died. However, when a magically-facilitated trip into the past enables her to understand and accept Andy’s death was not her fault, she is able to move on with her life. When Prue met Ryan Hunter, Phoebe’s psychology professor, there was an instant mutual attraction. The two have since begun dating, and whilst Prue keeps her wiccan heritage a secret, her relationship with Ryan is blossoming into something very special. Professional LifeStraight after college, Prue secured a job at the Museum of Natural History in San Francisco. Here, she met Roger, who later became her fiancé. However, when Prue discovered Roger had tried to seduce Phoebe, she broke off the engagement and the relationship. Despite the breakdown of their relationship, the two continued to work together, with Roger acting as Prue’s boss. Realizing the working relationship was as doomed as their romantic relationship, Prue accepts a job at Buckland's Auction House, unaware that it is actually run by two warlocks posing as humans, who are determined to destroy the Charmed Ones. When they fail at that, Buckland's is in dire financial straights, and the bank comes in. Prue is invaluable in saving Bucklands-while saving the world and all now seems fine.

PIPER HALLIWELL Piper was born to Patricia Halliwell and Victor Bennett, and was their second child. On March 24, 1975, she was visited by a future version of herself. It was also on that day that Patty signed a pact with the warlock Nicholas to make him a ring that made him immune to her daughters' powers. After Piper's little sister, Phoebe, was born in November 1975, Penny bound their powers to keep Nicholas from killing them and taking their powers. Piper is the middle sister—meek, shy and very much the arbiter between her sisters, Phoebe and Prue. While Prue acts as the fearless lead witch and Phoebe is the eccentric and reckless spell-caster, Piper takes up the reins as the moral compass and voice of reason for the Charmed Ones. Trained as an accountant and a chef, she worked as a bank teller after her college graduation, but was persuaded by Grams to resign. Right after Grams died in 1998, Piper worked as a private caterer and as a chef at a trendy bar/restaurant in downtown San Francisco called "Quake". She is widely considered as one of the best chefs in San Francisco. As a new witch, Piper develops the power of molecular immobilization, the slowing down of molecules to the point where an object appears frozen. Piper is also the best potion-maker out of the three sisters, aided by her training as a chef. Unlike her sisters, Piper has always been the most reluctant to embrace her destiny as a Charmed One. She is always craving some bit of normalcy in all of her relationships, refusing to allow magic to take precedence over every aspect of her life. This has become a significant weakness, as demons and warlocks over the years have exploited the fact that Piper wants to just be normal in order to attempt to steal her powers or end her life. Revelation as a Charmed OneOnce the Charmed lineage is revealed, Piper is initially shocked, and then disturbed by her new powers, scared that she may hurt someone. Piper's inherited power is the power of molecular immobilization, also known as temporal stasis. This primarily gives her the ability to 'freeze' objects in motion by slowing down their molecular movement rate to such a point where they appear not to move. Her power, initially triggered by panic, required her to make hand gestures to cause things to freeze or unfreeze. As a result, if Piper's hands are tied, she is powerless. At first Piper could only freeze everything in her immediate location (within the room she was in) and the freeze would only last for a few seconds. She later learned to freeze and unfreeze on command, and selectively choose parts of objects to freeze or unfreeze. She could also freeze and unfreeze certain objects and subjects (like every innocent in the room). This power continues to grow ever stronger, allowing her to freeze objects for longer, and in a larger range of area around her. Piper is currently learning to master this power and how to attack using precision. Her power does have its limitations, however – she is unable to freeze “good witches”. Moreover, she is reliant on her hands, and some enemies are immune to her powers. Unlike Prue's telekinetic abilities, the limits on Piper's power are not determined by an object's mass. Rather, Piper's power of freezing seems to be limited by the area, regardless of how many objects are in it or their weight. When indoors, Piper's powers appear to be limited by the room she is occupying. Outdoors, it is unclear what her limits are. She can freeze objects and people that are technically outside the room she is in, if she has a clear shot. Like the other Charmed Ones, Piper can also brew magical potions and recite/write spells. She is best at making potions, because she is a natural-born and university-trained chef. Romantic LifePiper has fallen in love with a ghost, a warlock, and most recently with her Whitelighter Leo Wyatt. She has proven to be the sister most ‘unlucky in love’, and seems to fall for men with whom she cannot pursue a long-term relationship with. Her engagement with Jeremy Burns was abruptly ended when she found out that he was a warlock waiting to kill the Charmed Ones as soon as they received their powers. A ghost, Mark Chao, captures her heart very early on during her first year as a witch but once his death was avenged by Piper and her sisters, Mark moved on. Later she meets Leo Wyatt, a handyman hired to do odd jobs around the manor. Falling for him, she and Phoebe both compete for his affections, and although Piper wins his heart, Leo turns out to be a "guardian angel" to the Halliwells, and he is forbidden from pursuing a romantic relationship with his "charge". Forced to part because of his whitelighter status, the state of their relationship remains unclear. Whilst the two have admitted their love for one another, his role as whitelighter and her role as a charmed one create difficulties for their romance, compounded by the restrictions imposed by “The Founders” – Leo’s bosses. Professional LifePiper originally worked as an accountant for a small bank in San Francisco before quitting her job to pursue her dream of being a professional chef. A few months later, Piper landed a job as a new chef under the tutelage of Chef Moore at a high quality restaurant, Quake. After only a week, Piper's boss leaves Quake and she is promptly promoted to restaurant manager, a job that has her constantly working double shifts and makes her unhappy. After quitting Quake, Piper opens Alchemy, a nightclub named as a tribute to its magical traditions. Alchemy caters to a ‘hip’ crowd and is made popular by Prue’s wild behaviour during its opening night. Since then, Alchemy has remained a successful club.

PHOEBE HALLIWELL Phoebe Halliwell was born on November 2, 1975, to Patricia Halliwell and Victor Bennett. Phoebe has two sisters – Prue and Piper, and was named after the favourite aunt of her mother. Although born with the power of premonition, her maternal grandmother Penelope Halliwell bound the powers of her grand-daughters to keep Nicholas from killing them and taking their powers. Her father and maternal grandmother argued about Victor being merely human and thus unable to protect his own children from the supernatural. A disgruntled Victor eventually left his family. On February 28, 1978, Patricia was drowned fighting a water demon. Phoebe and her two older sisters were effectively orphaned and were raised by their maternal grandmother Penelope. After completing high school, Piper and Prue moved into an apartment together in North Beach where they stayed until their grandmother Penelope became ill and they moved back in with her. Prue became engaged to a man named Roger and she asked Piper to be her maid of honor. Unfortunately, Roger began to hit on Phoebe at her bartending job, sending her flowers and other inappropriate gifts. When Prue found out, she reacted aggressively and accused Phoebe of coming onto him. Devastated at the accusation, Phoebe left for New York City. Around this time, Penny took a picture of the three. Seeing how disconnected the sisters were, Penny planned to use a potion to bind the girls' powers forever, but she died before she could use it. Unlike her sisters, Piper and Prue, Phoebe is more susceptible to turning evil because she is the only one of the sisters who was born in the Halliwell manor. Revelation as a Charmed OneSix months after her grandmother’s death, having fallen on hard times, Phoebe returned to San Francisco and moved back in with her sisters. Prue was not at all welcoming to Phoebe, because she still believed she ruined her engagement. It was then that Phoebe discovered the Book of Shadows in their attic and learned that she and her sisters were members of a long line of good witches. Phoebe has the power of premonition, a passive power. This power is triggered when Phoebe touches or is in presence of something that has to do with what her premonition is about. This power is currently uncontrollable and Phoebe is unable to experience premonitions on demand. Her flashes of future and past appear black and white to her. Her premonitions are triggered by objects or strong psychic auras, making them a form of psychometry. This originally only encompassed precognition, to see the future, but grew to include retrocognition, to see the past, too. As with her other sisters, Phoebe is able to brew magical potions. She is especially adept at writing spells. Romantic LifePhoebe’s love life has been tumultuous. Her former boyfriend, Clay, tried to pass off a cursed urn to her and her sisters, not only putting Prue’s professional career in jeopardy, but also risking the lives of the sisters. Since Clay, Phoebe has been very careful to remain single. Shielding her heart to protect herself from harm, she has remained distant from men, instead channeling her energy into finding out as much as possible about her recently revealed wiccan heritage. Despite her efforts, a romantic interest is just around the corner, and true to character, Phoebe will throw herself head-first into a relationship, regardless of the potential negative consequences. Professional LifePhoebe has worked multiple odd jobs since her return to San Francisco. These have included being a bartender, a hotel lounge psychic and an executive secretary at SWA properties, a real estate company. Wanting more from her life, Phoebe has recently enrolled in a local college, undertaking a bachelor of arts in psychology. She is hoping that this will give her some much needed purpose in her life.

LEO WYATT The charmed one’s whitelighter, Leo Wyatt was originally known to the sisters as a handyman. Forced to keep his true identity a secret, his handyman ruse enabled him to watch over them without causing suspicion. Spending so much time at the manor, it wasn’t long before Leo began developing feelings for Piper. These feelings were reciprocated, and the two began a romance. However, relationships between whitelighters and their charges are strictly forbidden, and, assigned another charge, Leo left Piper and her sisters. Leo still watched over and guided the Charmed Ones, and when he returned and Phoebe discovered him using his levitation to change a light bulb, he confessed the truth to her. Later injured by a darklighter, he sought out Piper for aid, and she learned the truth of his identity. Near death, Leo confessed his love for her, and swapping powers with him, Piper was able to heal his injuries. Although Leo offered to give up being a whitelighter to be with Piper, she didn't want him to turn away from his calling and the two parted ways. Whitelighter WaysLeo’s role as a whitelighter is very similar to that of a ‘guardian angel.’ He watches over his charges and intervenes when necessary to help them along their path and keep them safe. Able to be called by their charges and appear in an instant, they constantly hear the lives of their charges in their heads. Whitelighters function as messengers between The Founders and witches. Leo uses his connections to the Founders to help the sisters whenever they need information not provided by the Book of Shadows. Whitelighters are people who were previously somehow connected to the magical world or who were generally good people who have died. They are given the choice to become Whitelighters and gifted the powers of a Whitelighter (such as orbing, healing and immortality) instead of moving on to the afterlife. Their bodies are replicas of their former human bodies, but are composed of orbs which are described as white lights (hence the term Whitelighter) that have a healing sense to them. If struck by a power that would usually kill a mortal (for example, an energy ball or particle acceleration), their bodies will explode into orbs then reform relatively unharmed; they can, however, be knocked unconscious. After becoming a Whitelighter, the person's DNA will have three helices like that of witches and demons, not just two like normal humans. As they are pacifists, Whitelighters avoid fighting, except when desperately needed in order to protect their charges. Under no circumstances are they allowed to kill. PowersWhitelighters have the ability to orb, a kind of magical teleportation. This comes in handy for visiting their many charges around the world. They are also able to orb objects around. Orbing is not an exact science and can be disrupted by magic, sending someone to a place they did not intend to go. Whitelighters can use their ability to sense the people they are trying to find before going anywhere. Healing is another special ability granted to Whitelighters, and is triggered when their charges have been injured. As long as there is the faintest breath of life left in a person, they can be healed from any injury, whether the injury is magical in origin or not, though they cannot heal self-inflicted damage. This abilitiy is triggered by the emotion of love. Among the powers of Whitelighters are levitation, invisibility and ‘cloaking’ their charges (making others unable to sense them). Whitelighters can also empathically feel what their charges feel (which, if not controlled, can actually hurt them), knowing if they are hurt or have been killed. They are also able to create orbs of light. White- lighters can also summon/create orbs of light. Leo is also able to ‘heal’ household appliances, light bulbs, pipes as well as the Book Of Shadows.

RYAN HUNTER A professor of Psychology at USC, Ryan is one of Phoebe’s first year psychology lecturers. Intelligent, charming, and incredibly handsome, Phoebe was initially drawn to him. However, it was her sister, Prue, whom Ryan immediately developed a connection with. From the moment they met, the two experienced an instant attraction. Although it was clear they both felt something for eachother, Prue’s prior experiences with relationships and the recent loss of Andy have made her reluctant to open herself up to anybody. Ryan, however, is persistent, and his attraction to Prue is hard for him to ignore. He likes her, and he knows she likes him. Passionate and driven, he is willing to take a chance and risk it all in an effort to romance Prue. Yet Ryan’s past is shrouded in mystery, and he holds secrets which may jeopardize not only his own life, but the lives of the sisters. He is an enigma who prefers to keep his private life well hidden, and his intentions are, as of yet, unknown. What is known, however, is that there is more to Ryan than meets the eye. Whether this bodes well or ill for the charmed ones is yet to be seen.

DARRYL MORRIS An inspector in the San Francisco Police Department, Darryl was Andy Trudeau’s partner until Andy’s untimely death. Working with Andy has meant he has been exposed to many unsolved murder cases with which the Halliwell sisters have been co-incidentally connected with. Curious, he has so far kept his suspicions to himself out of loyalty to his deceased partner. However Darryl knows something is going on, and the more the sisters’ names are connected to ‘unusual’ cases, the more suspicious he becomes. He is starting to ask more and more questions concerning the sisters, and soon his loyalty to his former partner may not be enough to keep his burgeoning curiosity in check.

MADAME EXECUTIVE Much of Madame Executive’s past remains shrouded in mystery. For reasons known only to her, she believes the charmed ones wronged her, and her hatred for them fuels her every move. She despises them with a passion and her one motivation is hurting them – to make them pay for the pain she endured. She’s a svelte maiden in iron armor. To look at her, you might not guess. Stunningly attractive, her smile lights up a room and speaks of youth and fun. She was like that once – a witty and trusting girl who believed the best of people. But now, nothing remains of that carefree girl. Her heart has been tempered by hurt. Under her confident façade, Madame Executive is a broken woman, shattered into many parts by a past event so brutal and horrid that it has tormented her every day since and shaped her into the woman she has become. She will do anything – use anyone – to achieve the one thing that means more to her than her own life – revenge for what was done to her. A cunning and merciless manipulator, she scrutinizes everything and everyone. Everyone is a pawn in her game, whether they realize it or not. She is the epitome of severe, matte-black style, with a model’s posture and a gunfighter’s stare. A brilliant strategist and visionary, she may be seen as an ice princess, but this is far from the truth. She may show little emotion, may even appear aloof and cold, but there’s a fire within her. When her anger rises, it does so swiftly and surprisingly – she goes for the throat fast and without warning. She’s learnt the hard way that you can never trust anyone, and the only person you can truly rely upon is yourself. Madame Executive only really gets along with those who are as hollow and cold as she is. She flocks to cruelty, and makes allies of those who exhibit her breed of icy brutality. If you do as she says, she’s all smiles and praises. If you lie or fail in a task she has set, your life is hers. She is the keeper of monsters, the leader of demons, and if you cannot carry out your duties she’ll have you put down and replaced. She is the epitome of a woman who isn’t quite willing to admit she’s a monster, even though her cruelty is all she has left of her humanity- thus, in effect, making her wholly monstrous.
