Charmed set to return!

According to deviantART artist David "Dave" Hoover (Tarzman), comic book/graphic novel publishing company Zenescope Entertainment may be coming out with a comic book based on Charmed.

He has posted the following on one of his model sheets:

"If everything goes according to plan I'll be working on a "Charmed" comic book based on the hit TV series published by Zenescope Entertainment. To get the job I had to compete with others vying for the same gig, and our task was to do model sheets of the girls showing how we would draw them. The art would be approved by the studio.

The odd thing about this was that they supplied no photo reference, so I searched the internet high and low looking for the best possible pictures. Of the three girls, I thought Alyssa Milano would be the easiest to draw, but she turned out to be the hardest. She sort of changed her look more often than the other two, Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs.

I worked on a Star Trek, the Next Generation book one time in the past, and for that they supplied all kinds of great reference. In this case I did the best I could. Profile shots were the hardest to find, and I ended up compositing several photos to try to come up with a good profile shot of each of the girls.

I was happy with the end result, and I guess the studio was too, because I got the job."

By the sounds of the article, this seems to be actually happening and in the progress of really being made. I'm excited! ;D

I actually really like Holly's. Followed by Alyssa, then Rose. Anyway, I'm not like squealy-excited about this, but it'd be cool if it happened. On the other hand, though, I was a big fan of Buffy when it was on TV, but I haven't read a single comic, other than the ones that were released whilst the show was running. But that's a different show, and a different topic. Anyway, if it was released, there's a few things I'd like to see.

Phoebe actually losing her powers of Empathy and Levitation for good. Most people wouldn't like this, but I feel she was a much better character, and the show was much better, when she just had premonitions, perhaps levitation too. But not empathy, that just became a cheap knock-off of TK.

The sisters actually doing their originally intended jobs right. The show we all came to love was about three sisters who happened to be witches, destined to save innocents. What did it become? A show about three witches who happened to be sisters, trying to get rid of all evil so they could have an easy life. I actually think Billie and Christy were partially right in S8. The sisters had turned selfish. All they cared about was wiping out all evil so they could quit their jobs and relax. Phoebe only cared about herself, Paige only cared about her boyfriends and Piper only cared about her family. When it started, they did all care about their family and each other, but they also cared about the innocents.

A few appearances from Prue. I mean, it wouldn't be as limited in comic book form because there wouldn't have been the issues with Shannen. They could just pay her to use her face or draw her a little different. Not too different, though, or it'd ruin the whole thing, IMO.

Anyway, I'll probably have loads of people hating me for this but ah, well. We all have opinions.

I agree with some of the stuff you said. The thing with three witches who happen to be sisters as opposed to three sisters who happen to be witches has been a common complaint I see alot.

I would actually like to see Phoebe get her powers back, but do empathy the correct way. The way it was introduced in season 3 as opposed to how it turned out in season 6.

The appearances with Prue would be great. I would definately need to see that, for the interaction would be great, but now the question is, would it be a season 9 we are looking at then? Sort of how Buffy did a season 8 with their comics...oh well, guess we will find out.

I'd personally like to see them re-do the franchise from S4, and have it keep the original elements of Charmed. It all started to go downhill after S5, with all of the magical community and everything, so an Alt. S4, but still with Paige, would be cool, or maybe just an Alt. S5.

Well, they did it with Buffy, so I'm sure it could be done with this. I would just hope that they would do it right, unlike Buffy. Of what I've read, the comics of Buffy are just ridiculous. *cough* Anyway, I'd be into it if they did it. I wouldn't like them to backtrack and start doing an alternate season or something. I'd like to see them continue the real story and see the characters continue to grow, not go backwards. I would definitely like to see Phoebe get her other powers back. Levitation is my favorite, so I would really want to see that one again, even in comic form. I agree about empathy, that if they brought it back they should do it right and have it be the power it is supposed to be. As for appearances from Prue... eh. If they did it, fine, if they didn't, I wouldn't really care.

But yeah, I would certainly read this if it happens. I won't hold out hope, but I'll keep an eye on it. Those drawings are fantastic, so hopefully they would have a good artist like that.

Oh, I hope this happens and I hope that Kern has absolutely NOTHING to do with it! FINALLY! Demons who don't have to look mortal!

Shannen wouldn't allow her image to be used as Prue on the show thanks to the way she was fired, so I'm not sure if they would be able to use it in the comic books without her permission, which she probably would not grant. And if the image doesn't look enough like Shannen, it would be hard to accept her as Prue. So unless they draw her totally differently (and come up with a reason for why she looks so different), I doubt if Prue would be part of it at all.

It would be great if they could do all of the other things Corruption and Nerf mentioned (and I agree with all of them), but somehow I doubt that we would be that lucky, unless we're ULTRA-lucky and they choose an actual fanfic writer to write the story.
